This is a modified variant of polycaprolactone; the melting point has been lowered from 60°C to 42°C. It can be shaped by hand after a few minutes in hot water, and it can be reheated and reshaped again and again. The lowered melting point means the soft plastic can be handled with little risk f burning your fingers; there is also more time to shape it before it solidifies.

Used for:
Polycaprolactone (PCL) is an industrial polymer used for hot-melt glue and laminating pouches. This low melting point variant is used for sculpting, model making, and prototyping.

Details:
PCL is non-toxic and biodegradable. It can be coloured with dry colour pigments. This modified polycaprolactone contains a plasticiser that gives off a distinct odour. The regular polycaprolactone does not have this odour.   

Idea:
Let kids shape – and re-shape – their own toys. 

The material is delivered as granules that can be easily melted in hot water and shaped. We can sell any quantity, so please contact us if you need larger quantities or have questions.

  • Can you provide some information about the compressive strength of the Polycaprolactone and Modified Polycaprolactone plastics material you sell?

    The modified polycaprolactone is mainly used as a modelling material and as a toy. Is it rearely used for actual products, so we don't have material data for the compressive strength. 

    The normal polycaprolactone we stock has a Modulus (E) of 400-500 MPa and a Yield stress of 14-16 MPa
